Karen Rose Wynn Pollock, age 77, passed away on January 14, 2025, at the Harmony House in Motley, MN, comforted by the compassionate care of Moments Hospice, the staff at Harmony House, and the thoughts and prayers of her family and loved ones.
Karen was born to George II and Colette (Roggenkamp) Wynn on February 25, 1947, at Wesley Hospital in Wadena, MN. She attended St. Ann's Parochial School and graduated with the Wadena High School Class of 1965. She went to work as an administrative assistant at the University of Minnesota prior to relocating to Washington State in 1967 with her best friend Polly Rybom (Polly Donaldson). They ended up in Centralia, WA, where Karen found work at a bank check processing company, "Bank Check Supply", and where she met co-worker Robert "Bob" C. Pollock.
On December 31, 1967, Karen married Bob and a year later their son Jeffrey Robert was born on November 26, 1968. In the early 1970s Karen, Robert and Jeff moved to Honolulu as part of Bank Check Supply expansion. During the two years they lived in Hawaii, their son Jason George Clark was born on October 26, 1972. Jeff recalls this as a very special time of his life and takes solace in photo albums his mother put together of the family's early time in the Islands. While in Hawaii Karen's sister Pat Wynn (Pat Trana) came to visit and to this day the family laughs about the story of Jeff locking the two of them out of the house, for the entire sunburning day, while Bob and Karen worked.
The family of four returned to Centralia and the local Bank Check Supply plant after a few years of Island life. Karen would eventually enjoy a change of career and spent years working at Centralia Pharmacy as a technician. Both Jeff and Jason graduated from high school and college, eventually relocating outside of Centralia. Karen returned to Wadena and her extended family in the early 2000s where she lived and selflessly devoted most of her last years providing care and support for friends, family and neighbors. She lived at Humphrey Manor until the afflictions of Alzheimer's/Dementia left her unable to care for herself. She spent her final years in residential memory care.
During her roughly 20 years in Wadena, prior to entering residential memory care, Karen enjoyed living near her sister, Pat and husband Don, and brother Jeff Wynn. She saw them regularly and enjoyed many meals, walks with her sister Pat, going to the Cozy Theater for hot buttered popcorn, chocolate and cokes, and card games of 3-13 with family. Her sister Sandy Wynn lived nearby in Brainerd/Baxter and they cherished their time together as well. Karen also took great leisure and joy in "playing in the dirt" - Patty's joke for her love of gardening and landscaping. She also took tremendous comfort and pleasure in coloring in books with gel pens given to her by Jeff's wife Renee.
Although Karen's sons and their families continue to reside in WA State, she absolutely loved phone calls and especially in-person visits from her sons, friends, and family. Mike and Polly Donaldson would visit her annually in MN. Jason would make trips to visit her and Jeff and Renee made a point of making the trip from WA to see her as often as possible (especially the past four years). They will miss their frequent trips with Karen to "Ernie's on Gull Lake" to get cheeseburgers, fries and shakes which she loved so much. They will miss her calls, trips to Walmart to get her more of her favorite sweatshirts and candy, watching movies with her, and trips to the cabin at Grandview Lodge on Gull Lake near Nisswa.
Mourning the loss of our beloved Karen, we take comfort in knowing that she is now in a better place and no longer suffering from the horrific symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Her departure has left a tremendous void in our hearts that words simply cannot adequately express. Karen you will be missed and ALWAYS dearly loved.
Preceding Karen in death were her parents George and Collette Wynn. Remembering Karen are: her sons, Jeffrey (Renee) of Anacortes, WA and Jason (Jennifer) of Port Orchard, WA.; grandchildren Emily L Pollock, Charlyse McNeil, Owen Pollock and Chloe Pollock; siblings Mary Jane (Leo) Fiedler of Livingston, TX, Patricia (Donald) Trana of Wadena, Sandra Baumann of Avondale, AZ, Jerry (Terry) of St. Paul, Dennis (Nancy) of Plymouth, Michael (Linda) of Las Vegas, NV; George (Kim) of Fargo, ND and Jeffrey of Wadena; and 15 nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her special friends Polly (Mike) Donaldson of WA, Diane Zeta and other friends from Humphrey Manor in Wadena.
