Karen S. Rider, 74, of Centre Hall, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Born on January 23, 1951, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Treaster and Gwendolyn Knoff. She was married on December 24, 1968, to Edwin L. Rider in Pleasant Gap.
Karen graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1968. She worked as a cosmetologist at Dank's Department Store and at McClanahan's Drug Store before earning her certification as a pharmacy technician. She worked at McClanahan's Drug Store for more than 20 years before working as a medical technician at Greens Hills Village in State College before retiring from Thompson's pharmacy in Centre Hall, where she worked for five years.
Karen was a strong-willed woman. She enjoyed word search puzzles, shopping for deals on QVC, and going out to eat with friends and family. She could often be found with a spicy book in one hand and a cigarette in another. She had a great sense of humor, especially when discussing roosters with those that were close to her. She was a straight talker that did not hold back and showed how much she loved you with her witty words and jokes.
Along with her husband, Karen is survived by her sons, Mark E. Rider and his wife, Dee, of Waynesboro and Adam M. Rider of Spring Mills; two grandchildren, Wade Rider and his wife Kourtney of Harrisburg and Kyle Rider of Greencastle; and two great grandchildren, River and Jorah.
Along with her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her only sister, Linda Wells.
Following Karen's wishes, there will be no services held.
The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to the staff of the UPMC Family Hospice. Their care for Karen and her family went beyond expectations and did not go unnoticed. Because of their care, Karen would like any memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to be made to Family Hospice, 20 Sheraton Drive, Altoona, PA 16601 or online at tiny.cc/FHmemorial.
