Karen Mae Smith 81, of Findlay, went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning August 4th 2025. Karen was born in Fostoria on May 31, 1944 to Edward Smith and Mabel (Bennett) Smith. She graduated from Fostoria high school in 1962 and continued her education to receive her diploma in Nursing from Maumee Valley Hospital School of Nursing (Toledo, OH) in 1969. In 1973 she graduated from Fort Wayne Bible college with a BS in Missionary Nursing. She worked for frontier nursing service in Hyden Kentucky from 1973 to 1974. Her nursing career experience included 23 years in hospitals and 15 years in home health care serving in Indiana, Florida, and North Carolina before retiring in 2009. Moving back to Ohio in 2013 to be closer to family Karen enjoyed spending time with her cherished friends, and family, traveling extensively especially enjoying taking cruises, attending conferences, reading, photography, gardening, canning and playing gospel and other Christian music on her piano and guitar she was also an avid sports enthusiast and participated in women's softball and basketball for many years.
She is survived by her brother Dennis A. Smith, and his wife Sara, of Fostoria, her sister Janice E. Tennison and her husband Larry of Findlay. And many loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by parents Edward and Mabel Smith, brother Duane Smith.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 8, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, Ohio with Pastor Ben Wallick officiating. Burial will be at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, Ohio. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service.
