Karen Loretta Unger, age 79, of Jefferson City, passed away on October 2, 2024. She was born on November 5, 1944, in Granite City, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd "Buck" and Geneviere Buckingham. Karen married Lawerence Unger on July 3, 1962.
A talented cook, Karen was known for her delicious pastries, especially her delightful cream puffs, which brought happiness to family gatherings and celebrations. Her kitchen was always filled with warmth, love, and the enticing aroma of her culinary creations.
Karen is survived by her two sons, Darrell Unger (Anita Morris) of Eldon, and
Jerald Unger (Linda) of Jefferson City; her sister, Madonna Hettenhouse of Edwardsville, Illinois; her sister-in-law, Nancy Greene (Gary) of Eldon; her nephews, Craig Hettenhouse of Edwardsville and Timothy Buckingham of Illinois; her nieces, Kristi Corder of Illinois, Melanie Janssen of Illinois, and Rhonda Buckingham of Illinois; her grandchildren, Beth Groll (Dustin) of Osage Beach, Colleen Jansen (Curtis) of Bonnots Mill, and Kelly Bratcher (Trey) of Ashland, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Karen was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Lawerence Unger; her parents, Floyd "Buck" and Genevieve Buckingham; her brother, Ronnie Buckingham; her grandson, Tony Unger; and her niece, Jessie Metter.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
