Karen Sue Wisecup, aged 74, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, in Ames, Iowa, with her beloved dog, Dolly, by her side. Born on February 3, 1950, at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Karen was the youngest child of Lestell and Mildred Rutter. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Linda Leo and William "Bill" Rutter. Survivors include two nephews and four nieces Todd Rutter, Troy Rutter, Tracy Rutter, Roxanne Cogil, Norma Aldinger and Nancy Leo.
Karen graduated from Ames High School and spent her early years assisting her mother with a home daycare and working in the fast-food industry. In October 1990, she married George Raymond White, a union that later ended. Karen then moved to Boone, Iowa, where she worked at L and M Gas and Grocery. It was there she met Gary Clark Wisecup, whom she married on April 1, 1999. Although they had no children together of their own, Karen's affection for dogs was lifelong, beginning with her childhood poodles.
After Gary's passing in 2019, Karen retired and continued to live in her cherished home on 7th and State Street, thanks to the support of her neighbors and friends, including Bobbie Platter, Jay Judge, and the Robertson family. She maintained a close relationship with her cousin Annetta Wood in Guam, often enjoying late-night conversations.
Karen was a fan of classic Westerns and found joy in simple pleasures, like visits from friends and family. Her home, affectionately named "The Dolly House," is being lovingly restored to honor her memory.
Graveside service for Karen, of family and friends for will be at 1 P.M. on Friday December the 27, 2024 at Story Memorial Gardens Cemetery 3215 South Duff Avenue Ames, Iowa with Pastor Angela Cunigan officiating. And following, Dolly will be hosting a lunch after the graveside service.
Karen will be laid to rest alongside her parents and older brother.
Karen's love for dogs was profound, and in her memory, donations can be made to an animal rescue or shelter of your choice in Karen's honor. Her spirit will be remembered by all who knew her, and her legacy of kindness and love for animals will endure.
