Karen F. Zang, 73, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on August 18, 2025. A beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend Karen was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her. She was born on October 12, 1951, in Mechanicsburg, PA to the late Ernest and LaRue (Cassidy) Focht.
A proud graduate of Northern High School in Dillsburg, Karen went on to achieve her undergraduate degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and earned her Master’s Degree from Penn State University. A devoted educator, she shaped the minds of countless children throughout her teaching career, serving both as a full-time elementary teacher at Northern York School District and as a beloved substitute teacher for the Cumberland Valley School District.
Karen was more than just an educator; she was an active member of the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Lay Reader, and a cherished ‘Grandfriend’ to many. Her commitment to helping others was palpable and evident in her joyful spirit. Whether sending out birthday and holiday cards or spending precious moments with her grandchildren, Karen led a life full of kindness and love.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Michael H. Zang; their daughter, Kimberly Brewer; their sons, Andrew (Allison) and Patrick (Lauren) Zang; and her brother, Stephen Focht. Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them, especially her grandchildren, Owen, Cassidy, Alivia, Ty, and Brooks who brought immense happiness into her life.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 9 AM – 10:30 AM at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, 300 E Simpson St, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 with a funeral to follow. Burial will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, ATTN: Organ Fund or online at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church Organ Fund.
