It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Karl Anthony Jones, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us on December 9, 2024, in Edwardsville, Kansas. Born on June 3, 1970, in New York City, Karl brought joy and laughter to everyone around him, embodying a spirit that was both warm and infectious.
Karl was the cherished only son of William and Ernestine Jones. A middle child who will always be remembered for his lively personality, he is survived by his older sister, Christine Barksdale and younger sister, Monique Jones. In addition, he will greatly missed by his niece Mackenzie Jones. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother Minnie L Crosby, "Mama", who meant the world to him.
For 24 wonderful years, Karl was the loving husband of Sunny Marie Jones. Together, they shared a life filled with laughter, adventures, and an unbreakable bond of love. Growing up as a military child, Karl grew up in numerous places including, California, West Germany and New Jersey. This movement combined with Karl's outgoing personality allowed Karl to feel comfortable with travel, collecting experiences and meeting people everywhere he went. Despite his love of travel, he loved coming home and settled first in Missouri and later in Kansas. He lived in his adopted community of Edwardsville for over 20 years sharing a home with Sunny and their cherished dogs, Mocco and Neeko, and most recently Bailey.
Karl's larger-than-life presence made him a beacon of light in the lives of many. He had an incredible ability to make friends effortlessly, which led to close relationships with his best friends Jermaine and Joey, and they shared many special moments throughout the years. Known for his disarming sense of humor and generous spirit, Karl was the life of the party and the workplace favorite whom everyone adored.
A passionate football fan, Karl's loyalty was firmly with the Philadelphia Eagles, and he enjoyed nothing more than cheering them on. His passion for the game, along with his tenacity, spilled over into all parts of life, often asking his younger sister to get him Eagles gear. His love of football was shared with his godson Malachi, of whom he was very proud.
His joy for life was evident, reflecting an indomitable spirit that encouraged laughter and connection among both friends and family.
Karl is also survived by his grandmother Lubonnie Fowler, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and friends who will miss his laughter, kind heart, and the way he lit up every room he entered. To say he will be missed is an understatement, Karl leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and unity.
In honor of Karl's vibrant spirit, his family encourages those who knew and loved him to remember the laughter, share their stories, and carry forward his love of life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The National Scleroderma Foundation in Karl's name, reflecting the love and joy Karl brought to the world.
A memorial service and celebration of Karl's life will be held at a future date.
Rest in peace, dear Karl. Your legacy of love will undoubtedly live on in all our hearts.

It was under unfortunate circumstances how I first meant Karl & Sunny. At Lenexa FMC, I would see them both 3 times a week while Karl came for treatment. Sunny was one of the most devoted spouses I ever witnessed for one of my patients. Easy to see how much she loved him and wanted him to have the best treatments. Even on his bad days, Karl had a friendly smile and tried staying positive as every day was different during dialysis. It was always my pleasure taking care of him and I will never forget him or Sunny. My extreme heartfelt condolences to Sunny and the family of Karl. May he now rest eternally in peace. Prayers to you all.
