Karl Leuffen Obituary

Karl was born in New York City on May 30, 1934 to the late Karl Johann and Anna Louise (Moritz) Leuffen.
He graduated from Franklin & Marshall College where he was captain of the soccer team and a proud member of Chi Phi fraternity.
He had a successful 37-year career with J.C. Penney Co., retiring as Store Manager in 1995 in Reading, PA.
Throughout his life, Karl was very active in community affairs. He was a Campaign Chair for Berks United Way in 1992, was President of the Board for Berks Visiting Nurses, delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and served on Vestry and other committees at Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading.
Karl was a beloved husband, father, grandpa and uncle. He is survived by three children, one step-son, eight grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. These include Eric K. Leuffen (husband of Deborah Reading, father of Kendall Leuffen and Jared Leuffen) of Exeter, PA, Christopher J. Leuffen (fiancé of Michelle Reyes, father of Cole Leuffen) of Oak Park, CA, Suzanne Cortney (wife of David Spiegel, mother of Brittan Cortney, Garrett Dylan and Makenna Cortney) of Hidden Hills, CA and step-son, Steven C. Silverman (husband of Heidi Gangewere, father of Aubrey Silverman and Craig Silverman) of Wyomissing, PA.
He is pre-deceased by his first wife Marjorie Inglis Leuffen, his second wife Betty Silverman Leuffen and his brother Robert Leuffen.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 22nd at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 527 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601. Prior to the service, a visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 9:30 – 11:00 AM. Karl will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in the Columbarium at Trinity. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church at the above address. Stitzel Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
