Karyl A. Schieler, 95, formerly of Morton and Kewanee, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Hopedale Nursing Home. Karyl was born October 27, 1929, in Kewanee, the daughter of George and Laura (Baker) Ford. Karyl graduated from Wethersfield High School with the class of 1947. Karyl married Harold H. Schieler on September 18, 1949, at the First United Methodist Church, Kewanee; he preceded her in death on August 12, 2024.
Karyl is survived by two daughters, Linda (Doug) Clough, Cape Coral, FL and East Moline, IL; Mary Ann (Greg) Gossmeyer, Stanford, IL; three grandchildren, Ron Gerard (Debbie Weida), Cape Coral, FL, Joe (Lisa) Gossmeyer, Congerville, IL, Sarah (Nick) Pate, Bloomington, IL; six great grandchildren, Christy (William) Prentice, Davenport, Shaun (Monica) Gerard, El Paso, TX, Molly Gossmeyer, Congerville, IL, Abram Gossmeyer, Congerville, IL, Jackson Pate, Bloomington, Madelyn Pate, Bloomington; and three great-great grandchildren, Braideyn and Grayson Prentice, Davenport, and Damian Gerard, El Paso, TX. Karyl was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
Karyl worked as a bookkeeper at the Star Courier, retiring in 1992. An avid reader, Karyl found solace and adventure within the pages of countless books. She was adept at remembering and reciting poetry from memory. Karyl was an excellent marksman with a rifle. She also raised sheep. Her garden was a vibrant testament to her love for flower gardening. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Karyl enjoyed singing in the church choir. An intrepid traveler, Karyl's journeys took her to the historic landscapes of England and Greece, the beautiful beaches of Puerto Rico, and the sun-kissed shores of Jamaica. Each trip was an opportunity to embrace the world's diversity, a reflection of her own zest for life. Her memory will be cherished and her absence deeply felt by all who knew her.
A Graveside service will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Wethersfield Cemetery. Pastor Martin Gutzmer will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend the money on your grandchildren, or that you buy your grandmother a bouquet of flowers, or that you take a loved one out to dinner or just make a phone call. Please leave an online condolence to Karyl's family at www.golnickschuenemanfh.com.
