Mary Kathleen “Kat” Saine Sigmon, age 93, of Cherryville, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Levine & Dickson - Huntersville. She was born on August 2, 1931, in Gaston County to the late Theodore and Vera Hord Saine. Kat was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was actively involved in the church. She was a part of the Presbyterian Pilgrimage and attended faithfully. Kat was a graduate of Cherryville High School where she played basketball. Her love of basketball continued throughout the years, and she was an avid Tar Heels basketball fan. Kat enjoyed movies and was a member of the Red Hat Club. In her earlier years, she loved to line dance. Kat loved all people and found happiness in the company of others. She also enjoyed going on vacations and traveling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jack Hoyte Sigmon; and brothers; Howard Saine, and Ben Saine (Carolyn).
Survivors include her sons, Doug Sigmon and wife, Patricia of Lincolnton, and Teddy Sigmon and wife, Kathy of Vale; brother, T.L. Saine (Miney); sister-in-law, Judy Sain; brother-in-law, Richard Sigmon (Margaret); grandchildren, James Poplin (Kimberly), Melissa Poplin, Jessica Goins and husband, Bradley, Joshua Sigmon and wife, Misty, Tinna Eastin and husband, Matthew, Honee Patterson, Heather Patterson, and David Hinson; great grandchildren, Cameron Felton, Adrian Felton, Brianna Felton, Madison Poplin, Isabella Poplin, Mason Cooper Goins, Brandon Fernstermacher, Harper Jackson Goins, Nolan Sigmon, Noah Hinson, and Nalanie Rae Ratchford; nephew, Marc Sigmon; niece, Delena Bridgeman and husband, Jason; great nephew and niece, Austin and Katie Scronce; and fur-babies, Garfield, Bennie Lynn, Sasha, Stevie, Ahleigha, Josie, and Birdie.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, September 16, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 PM, in the Fellowship Hall, prior to the service at the church. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request that memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 107 W. Academy St. Cherryville, NC 28021 or to Levine & Dickson Hospice House – Huntersville – 11900 Vanstory Dr, Huntersville, NC 28078.
