Kate Johnson

Kate Johnson was born July 9, 1937, in Woodville, Mississippi to James and Nonie Blakes Ashford. She transitioned peacefully to her new home on Sunday morning, October 5, 2025 at Lafon Sisters Of The Holy Family.
She was baptized at Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church in Woodville, Mississippi when she was a teenager by Rev. Eli Wilson. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Wilbert Johnson and to this union they were blessed with one daughter, Vonceal Johnson Carter before they later divorced.
When she moved to New Orleans she became a devoted and faithful member of Fifth African Baptist Church for over sixty years, where she was an active member until her health prevented her from attending. Kate enjoyed serving on the Usher Board and
She leaves to mourn her passing one sister, Mary Ashford of New Orleans, Louisiana, sister in law Mary Ashford of Austin, Texas, eight nieces, Donna (Lennon) Brown, Olivia Johnson, Barbara (Charles) Rudolph, Angela Ashford, Darlene (John) Cosby, Stephanie Brister, Tonya Ashford-Jackson, Natasha Hogan, two nephews, Thomas Bethley and Eric Ashford, cousins and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Vonceal Johnson Carter, two sisters, Ophelia Bethley, and Carrie Brister, and four brothers, Matthew Ashford, Willie Ashford, Jesse Ashford, and Nolan Ashford, sister in law Betty Ashford, and nephew Demond Ashford.
I have fought a good fight, I finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: and not me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
