Katie J. Burkhart passed away suddenly at home in
Parker, Colorado the morning of April 21, 2025. A beautiful soul called home much too soon, she was only 42 years old. Katie will be remembered for her incredible sense of humor, creativity, and the unwavering support she provided to her family and friends. Katie was loved by many and touched so many lives. Katie's devotion to her family was her first priority; she loved camping, skiing, exploring, and road trips. If the family was with her, she was happy.
Born in Detroit, Michigan on March 4, 1983, to John and Susan Meyer, Katie was later joined by her brother, Robbie Meyer who is 2 years younger. Naturally, there were a number of favorite pets like a black lab named Jack, a white cat named Vanilla, and a calico cat named Purrrcy.
Katie spent her early elementary school years in Wilmington, Delaware before the family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where Katie would finish out her schooling by attending McGraw Elementary School, Webber Junior High School, and Rocky Mountain High School. It was at Webber and Rocky Mountain where many of Katie's long-time friendships were cultivated. And it was at Rocky Mountain High School in her junior year that Katie began dating Matthew Burkhart who would become the love of her life and, later, her husband on October 8, 2005.
Katie's love of music blossomed while playing in orchestra at Webber Junior High where she learned to play the viola and then the concert Harp. Katie pursued these two instruments throughout high school and while attending Colorado State University. Katie continued to play the viola until very recently when she and her daughter, Penny, both played their violas in a local orchestra.
Katie graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins in 2005 with a degree in Marketing from the College of Business and a minor in Merchandising. Katie graduated with Honors. She completed her formal education through Indiana University with a Master of Business Administration. She utilized her degrees throughout her career starting with Macys in Seattle, Ford Motor Company in Denver, Dish, and Wide-Open West Telecommunications also in Denver. Katie was most recently with SiteOne – formally Pioneer Sand and Gravel in Lone Tree. Katie was proud to contribute to SiteOne and Pioneer as their Director of Marketing.
Raised Catholic, Katie embraced her religion particularly in most recent years by teaching in the youth formation programs at Ave Maria Catholic Church in
Parker, Colorado and involving her two children, Max and Penny, in many aspects of the Church to solidify their foundation in the Catholic faith.
Katie is survived by her husband of 20 years, Matthew Burkhart, and her two children, Max Burkhart (16) and Penny (12). Her parents, John and Susan Meyer of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and her brother, Robbie Meyer, his wife, Audra, and their three children (Eliana 9, Graham and Isla 8) in Barrington, Illinois.
