Katherine Allison Close (Brooks) died at the age of 61, early Friday, December 8th at
Northwest Hospital surrounded by her family. Katherine is preceded in death by her
estranged husband Gilbert Livingston, mother Sarah Margaret Brooks, and father Norman
Henry Brooks. Katherine is survived by her daughter Sarah Margaret Close of Towson, MD
stepdaughter Paige Johnson of Minneapolis, MN and former husband, Herbert Close Jr.
Other surviving family members are her sisters Evelyn M. Dare of Tarpon Springs, FL,
Adrienne Fischer of Lutherville, MD and brother-in-law Anthony Fischer. Kathy was the aunt
of Mary Dare, John H. Dare, Norman Fischer, and Sophia Fischer.
Katherine, known as "Kathy," was truly a people person. She loved meeting and talking with
people. Her outgoing nature was displayed through her radio personality "Kathy Allison". She
worked the evening drive in Staunton, Virginia on WSGM radio. Kathy also enjoyed
traveling, spending time at the shore, knitting, gardening, and reading novels. She was
dedicated to learning and taught elementary school. She was a teacher for the Archdiocese
of Baltimore at St. Anthony of Padua, Shrine of the Sacred Heart School in Mt. Washington,
and St. Ursula Catholic School in Parkville, MD.
A memorial service will be held the first weekend in February. Information will be
forthcoming.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society, the
Alzheimer's Association, the American Heart Association, and YES INC. (Young-Onset
Dementia Education & Support).
