Katherine M. Jerde, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away, May 2, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 6th at St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Katherine was born on August 26, 1928, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the daughter of Raymond and Ethel (Deming) Hayes. She completed her bachelor's degree later in life. She worked as a social worker for the USDA. Katherine was an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Community. Her faith was very important to her. She was a talented seamstress and made many of her own clothes. Katherine enjoyed dancing, playing bridge, and gardening. She was particularly proud of her violets. Katherine was a great cook, especially her cinnamon rolls. She will be remembered for her generosity and wicked sense of humor. Throughout her life, Katherine was well read and curious and was fortunate to remain mentally sharp until the very end.
Survivors include her children, Kathy (Cindy King) Jerde of Manistique, MI, Elizabeth Jerde of the Bay Area, CA, James (Lori) Jerde of Kansas, Paul (Patty) Jerde of Dallas, TX, and Mary Ingles of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Billye Rae (Reed) Hammond and their children Cooper, Charlie, and Parker Jade; Jesse (Haley) Jerde, and Buzz Hayes Jerde; and niece Pam Hayes.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ethel and Raymond Hayes; sons, Raymond Jerde and John Jerde who died in infancy; brother, Robert (Barb) Hayes; nephew, Robbie Hayes; parents-in-law, Belle and Jerry Jerde; and son-in-law, Bill Ingles.
