Obituary of Randall F. Hanson

Randall F. Hanson, age 65 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Iowa City died Thursday, February 5, 2026, in Cedar Rapids.

Randall Francis Hanson was born July 25, 1960, in Estherville, Iowa the son of Carl and Malvina (Behrends) Hanson. Following high school Randy enlisted in the United States Marines serving during the Desert Storm War. Returning to the Iowa City area where he has resided most of his life he worked as a general laborer in various businesses, later as an IT associate and for many years worked as a locksmith for John's Lock & Key. He was united in marriage to Donna M. Henry in October of 1997.

Randy enjoyed much in his life, sailboating, motorcycles, camping, supporting his fellow veterans in the VFW & American Legion and a proud supporter of the Huey Museum in Peru, Indianna. As a man of faith, he cherished his church family at the Prairie Bible Church. Anyone that knew Randy knew a kind and very generous soul, one that would literally give you the shirt off of his back!

His family includes his wife, Donna; their children, Brittany Kelly, Abigail Hanson, Cara Hanson, Shelby Billick, Rachel Blaugh (Dennis), Brett Kruse (Stephanie), Brian Kruse and Doreen Dittmer (Daniel); 24 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, siblings, Rodney Hanson, Russell Hanson, Roger Hanson (Karma), Donna Ericksen, Raymond Hanson and Darla Blair.

He was preceded in death by his parents. And a brother, Richard Hanson.

Services celebrating Randy life will be held at 11am Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Iowa City VFW Hall. Burial at a later date will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
