Obituary of Kathleen Dopp
Kathleen Dopp peacefully passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by loved ones on November 16th, 2021. She was born June 28th, 1961 in Amsterdam, NY to her parents, John and Yvonne Kane. She grew up nearby in Canajoharie, NY and then on April 20th 1991, married Dennis Dopp, the love of her life.
Kathy was loved by all who knew her. Her positive nature was contagious and she lit up every room she entered. She lived life to the fullest. Her smile was infectious and her energy was unmatched. Kathy being the only girl, amongst the six siblings, became the glue of the family. Always up for an adventure, she organized vacations, holidays, parties and continually brought family and friends together. She opened her heart and her home to all: always accepting, always generous, always with open loving arms.
Until her retirement in June 2021, Kathy was a dedicated teacher in the Canajoharie School District, in which she was a champion for each and every one of her students. The impact she had on her students was immeasurable. She was the kindest, most giving and most compassionate educator one could ask for. As one student said "she made a difference in so many lives by being her beautiful self."
Kathy was one the most selfless people who gave her time and energy to numerous volunteer and educational organizations. The Canajoharie Youth Center and the Palatine Literary Club were two that were near and dear to her heart. In 2019 she was honored for her dedicated efforts when she received the Canajoharie Volunteer of the Year award.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Dennis; Aunt, Mary Frances Kane; brothers Michael (Kathy) Kane, Jim (Laurel) Kane, Daniel (Lori) Kane; sons Shane and Eric (Kym) Dopp; daughter, Jodi (Michael) Johnson; grandchildren, Katelynn and Nicholas Dopp, Dakota Christian, Jaeden Dopp and Kaden and Kahlea Johson. Sister-in-laws Sandy Dittman, Vivian Kane, and Gail Kane; Nieces Kathy (Donny) Dittman, and Alexis Kane, Nephews, Michael and Melanie Kara, Justin, Kevin, Jeremy, Matthew, Benjamin, and Christopher Kane, as well as many lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Yvonne Kane, brothers John and Kevin Kane and Brother-in-law, Richard Dittman.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, November 22nd from 1:00PM to 5:00PM at Lenz and Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St. Canajoharie, NY 13317.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canajoharie Youth Center, 9 Erie Blvd. Canajoharie, NY 13317 or the American Cancer Society 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110.

Kathy Dopp is an unforgettable woman in the Mohawk Valley. Her loving care for children iis legendary and her community impact will be remembered for years to come. We already feel unspeakable pain as we celebrate her life with the joy and love she gave to all who were lucky enough to cross paths with her. I´m so fortunate that I was one of those lucky ones.
