Kathleen Elizabeth McCusker Englert, 76, of Venice, Florida, entered into eternal rest on September 16, 2025. Born on January 2, 1949, in Northport, Long Island, Kathleen was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas McCusker and Patricia St. John McCusker. She was the cherished sister of the late Joan Hora and Thomas McCusker Jr., who were 18 and 15 years her senior. Kathleen was raised in Northport and graduated from Northport High School in 1967. She began her studies at Eastern Connecticut State College before returning home to complete her Associate's Degree at Suffolk Community College. She spent the next 15 years living and working in New York City, building a career in magazine production. In 1984, Kathleen met the love of her life, Frederick Englert, on a blind date. They married in September 1985 and began their life together in Chatham, New Jersey, later moving to Summit. Kathleen's entrepreneurial spirit led her to start a wallpaper hanging business, and she later managed a gift and decorative accessories shop in Summit for six years. She eventually joined Fred at Smith Barney as a financial consultant sales assistant until their joint retirement in 2005. After moving to Venice in 2009, Kathleen embraced retirement with joy and purpose. Having entered the Catholic Church in 2001, she and Fred devoted themselves to their faith, serving actively in many ministries, including OCIA, Bible Study, Retreat Teams, Cursillo, Emmaus, and most notably Family Promise both in Summit at St. Teresa of Avila Church and in Venice at the Epiphany Cathedral. Kathleen is survived by her devoted husband Fred, and by her stepson Dan Englert and his wife Anna, Robert Brown and William Brown, her cousins who were like brothers to her, and her beloved dog Katie. She will be remembered for her love of travel and cruising, her gift for hosting extraordinary holiday gatherings-especially her unforgettable Thanksgivings-and her zest for life's simple joys. Kathleen delighted in music concerts, learning new crafts, honoring traditions, and living out her deep faith through prayer. She cherished everything Christmas, everything Thanksgiving, the beauty of spring flowers, the sweetness of really good peaches, and the joy of puppies. Kathleen leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and friendship. She touched countless lives with her warmth and generosity, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 22, at 11:00 am at the Epiphany Cathedral Parish Center in Venice Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.
