Kathleen Janice (Smith) Scorgie departed this world on September 26th, 2023 at the age of 77 in Salem, Oregon. But more importantly, Kathleen entered this world on July 28, 1946, the 6th child in a family that eventually grew to 13 children (11 girls and 2 boys). Unsurprisingly,Kathleen, from a young age, learned to be competitive, stubborn, and creative (all well-known Smith family traits) in an increasingly crowded, lively home.

Kathy went to school in Gervais, Oregon and was married to her high school sweetheart, Gary Scorgie, from 1966-1980. Kathy's career spanned decades as an accomplished legal secretary for attorneys in several locations where she lived over the years: Portland and Salem, Oregon and Southern California.
Always vivacious, Kathy loved to make an entrance with a big smile and cheery greeting. She often came bearing gifts, and, if you were lucky, she brought some yummy home-baked goods. A great entertainer and organizer, family members remember Kathy's Tuesday crafting nights with sisters, line-dancing lessons in her garage for the young and old, and holiday family dinners, regardless of whether or not she remembered to add sugar to the pumpkin pie.

Kathy was independent and active. The competitive side of her enjoyed golf, tennis, and card and board games - her sisters often being her adversaries. A memorable and fierce Parcheesi
battle was once fought at an older sister's house. Kathy enjoyed visiting casinos, the beach, and family members. It was clear she felt it was important to attend special occasions of her siblings, nieces and nephews, and to make the rounds on holidays to visit as many people as possible.

Ever creative, Kathy was a serious crafter and decorator. As a talented baker, cross-stitcher, crocheter, and sewer, Kathy made many memorable gifts over the years - from peppermint bark and ornaments to slippers and hats. Kathy took pride in her home and was meticulous with her decorating style and color schemes - who could forget her cherry red and canary yellow decor! Kathy's home was a cheery and inviting place for all (as long as you didn't track in any dirt).

Kathy was much loved and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by 6 siblings: Becky Williams, Laurel Champlin, Judy Smith, Cleo Hall, Carolyn Grassman, and Donna Orton. She is survived by her partner William "Bud" Ball and 6 siblings: Lynda Hawley, Norma Harris, David Smith, Phillip Smith, Debra Springer, and Denise Iverson, and a plethora of nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday October 6th at 1:00 PM a City View Funeral Home, Salem, Oregon.
