Kathleen "Kathy" Matyniak, of Denver, North Carolina, beloved wife, sister, and friend, entered eternal life following a brief, four-month illness on Sunday afternoon December 8, 2024, at the Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC. She was 74 years old.
Kathy was born on January 14, 1950, in Erie, PA, and moved to Detroit at age 5 with her family when her father's employment brought them to Michigan. Kathy's roots in Detroit were strong, as she attended St. Brigid Elementary School and Immaculata High School. She continued her education at Eastern Michigan University, where she furthered her studies and began to shape the path of her successful career. Kathy married Henry Matyniak on June 9, 1972, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Dearborn Heights.
A dedicated professional, Kathy spent many years at Kawasaki Motors, where she thrived in her role as a senior marketing manager and became known for her intelligence, work ethic, and success. She was a woman of great accomplishment, yet always remained humble and kind, balancing her career with a deep love for her family and friends.
Kathy had many passions outside of her career. She was an avid gardener and took great joy in creating beautiful spaces. Her talent for interior design and decorating was unmatched, and her home was a testament to her creative spirit. She was also a skilled and thoughtful crafter, with a special gift for making beautiful items with her hands. Kathy's love of baking and candy-making brought sweetness into the lives of those around her, and she always knew how to brighten a room with her delicious treats. Moreover, Kathy and Henry loved to travel, especially overseas including Europe. She had a special fondness for France to which they traveled many times.
Christmas was Kathy's favorite time of year, and she loved nothing more than decorating her home to celebrate the season. She had a collection of decorations so vast that it seemed there was no room left for more, but she seemed to find a way to make it all work. Her festive spirit and her kindness were felt by all who knew her.
Above all, Kathy's love for her family was unwavering. She was an amazing sister to Nancy and a devoted wife and best friend to Henry. Their bond was a source of joy and strength in her life, and she was cherished beyond measure by those closest to her. Kathy's thoughtfulness, generosity, and compassion will never be forgotten.
Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her family, friends, and community. She was the kind of person who always put others before herself and never spoke a harsh word about anyone. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Surviving are her beloved and devoted husband of 52 years, Henry, her cherished sister, Nancy Blowey, and brother-in-law, William Blowey.
Kathy's funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday morning, December 18, at 11:00 am (in state at 10:30 am) at St. Fabian Catholic Church, 32200 West 12 Mile Road in Farmington Hills. A procession to the Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum, Southfield, for concluding prayers and subsequent entombment will follow.
May Kathy's soul rest in peace, and may her memory continue to inspire all who were touched by her kindness and love.
