Kathleen "Kathy" Hoynowski Meyer, 82, of White Stone passed away peacefully at home on September 3, 2025. She was born on July 25, 1943 in Paterson, NJ, and was daughter of the late Charles (Boley) Hino and Catherine Hino. Kathy grew up in northern New Jersey and received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and master's degree in Reading Specialization from William Paterson College (currently William Paterson University) in Wayne, NJ. She held a variety of teaching related positions, as an elementary education teacher, high school bedside tutor, and adjunct professor/instructor in Writing Effective Prose/English Composition for William Paterson University. After initially spending many memorable summer family vacations at the Tides Inn, she shared residency between northern New Jersey and the Northern Neck through the mid 1990s, until she retired and became a full-time resident of White Stone with her beloved husband Frederick "Rick" in the summer of 1999.
Kathy remained very active, social, and "with-it" (and was indeed proud of that), had diverse interests, and truly loved life on Carters Creek and the lower Northern Neck community. She was an active parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and member of Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club. Kathy was an enthusiastic long-time volunteer with Historic Christ Church, Dee's Attic Bookstore at the Lancaster Community Library, and Steamboat Era Museum – where she enjoyed working with educational programs and children/school groups. She also cherished her friends in various social groups, which included Mah Jongg, Red Hat Ladies (Northern Neck Rubies), and Bunko. Kathy also loved reading, dining out, cooking, great food, history, culture, and exploring new adventures as a part of "small town living".
Surviving are her twin sons, Scott Meyer of Lorton, VA and Steven Meyer of Rutland, VT; daughter, Tracy Augsburger of Orange City, FL; daughter-in-law, Karen (Scott's wife); brother-in-law, Geoffrey Meyer of Amelia Island, FL; and four nieces.
A Visitation and Wake Service will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday, September 12th, at 11:00 am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Kilmarnock, with Father Michael Orlowsky officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at Historic Christ Church Burying Ground in Weems.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
