Kathleen McCullough Newton, born December 21, 1951, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Gerald "Neubie" Newton for 50 years, and together they built a beautiful life full of love and memories.
Kathleen leaves behind her beloved children: Christopher (Angie) Newton, Patrick (Brittany) Newton, Rhett (Brittany) Newton, and Kimmy (Ryan) Curry. She was also known as "Kiki" to her eight adoring grandchildren: Slade, Ryder, Chase, Elle, Beckett, Declan, Chloe, and Teagan. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment with them.
Kathleen is preceded in death by her father and mother, William and Helene McCullough. She was deeply connected to her roots, never missing a holiday or vacation with her four sisters and brother.
A proud graduate of Florida State University, Kathleen's passion for her alma mater was rivaled only by her deep Catholic faith. She lived her life with devotion to her family, her faith, and her values. Kathleen was also an avid follower of politics, and her strong beliefs were always evident in the conversations she had with friends and loved ones.
Known for her competitive spirit, she enjoyed challenging family members to spirited games of Gin Rummy. Whether it was a game, a debate, teaching, coaching or any aspect of life, Kathleen always gave her all. Her tenacity, warmth, and wit made her someone you couldn't help but admire.
She was known to many as "Mama Newt" during her 39-year tenure at Shorecrest Preparatory School and 5 years at St. Raphael's Catholic School. Even after retiring from Shorecrest, she went back to teaching because of her passion and love for her students.
Kathleen's passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy will live on in the love and values she instilled in her family. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, a proud mother and grandmother, and a woman who lived with purpose and conviction.
Rest in peace, Kiki. Your spirit, love, and fierce loyalty will never be forgotten!

She was such a wonderful person! Both my boys had her at Shorecrest. I subbed there for many years, she was always there to lend a hand and always made me feel welcomed. Her smile and personality were infectious! She will be missed by so many and loved by everyone that knew her. Rest in Peace, Mama Newt!

I am so sorry to learn of her death. I had just seen her in Publix a few weeks ago, and we had a great chat and catch up. She seemed so good. She was a nice person to work with at Shore rest. Many people will miss her. Bonnie Farnsworth
