Kathleen A VanDemark, 75, of Tillson, New York, passed away on February 24, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Kathleen was born August 5, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Charles J Wolfarth and Helen M Wolfarth (Singler).
Kathleen graduated early from Kingston High School.
Kathleen married Walter VanDemark on June 17, 1972 in Tillson, NY. Kathleen and Walter were married for 35 years until Walter passed away April 8, 2008. She never remarried but when she moved to Florida she found a loving companion, Harry L Whitehill of Eustis, FL, until he passed away September 29, 2022.
Kathleen worked for New York State at New Paltz College as a supervisor in the accounting department, Ulster County BOCES and many other places. She also had a very successful daycare in her home for many years, where she raised so very many kids who she loved dearly.
Kathleen especially loved to dance and she loved to sing at the top of her lungs. She was always making up a silly song for anything that happened in life. She loved to travel and crochet. She loved to bring plants back to life. She would pick the worst looking ones she could find and nurse them back to health until they were thriving and beautiful. Most of all she loved to help anyone she could and to spend time with the people she loved. Kathleen acted as a mother for so many different people and animals over the years, giving anyone a home or a helping hand when they needed it. Her friends and family were everything to her. But more then anything in the world, she loved her children and she dedicated her entire life to making sure they were loved, safe, happy, and putting a smile on their faces every single day.
Kathleen was a member of different Protestant churches over the years. She loved to pray and she loved to spread the love of God to anyone who wanted to hear it. She held many roles in church, and taught Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School.
The things Kathleen will be remembered for most are her warmth, her beautiful smile, her hugs and her unconditional love.
Kathleen fought bravely through anything that got in her way and she never gave up.
Preceding Kathleen in death are her husband Walter R. VanDemark, her mother Helen M. Wolfarth, her father Charles J. Wolfarth, her loving companion Harry L. Whitehill and many family members and friends.
She is survived by her son, Charles VanDemark and his partner, her daughter, Cara VanDemark and her partner, Anthony Castelonia, her sisters, Eileen Arcarola and Madeline Schatzberg, her best friends, Marylou Seablom and her husband Donald Seablom, Barbara Grant and her husband Phil Grant, Virginia Carrig and Joanne Furman, nieces, nephews and many other family members, friends and surrogate children she collected over the years.
Cremation was held privately and inurnment with her husband will be in Ulster County Veterans Cemetery at New Paltz Rural at a later date.
George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., Rosendale, is assisting her family.
If Kathleen could have you all remember one thing, it would be this Irish Blessing that she loved so much:
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
