KINGSPORT – Kathryn Grace Hunley, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 20, 2025, following an extended illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Hawkins and Sullivan County. Kathryn retired as a CNA and then spent the remainder of her years caring for her grandchildren and family. She was a member at Gate City United Pentecostal Church and loved going to church and loved the Lord. She was a craftswoman who enjoyed sewing, woodworking and has made many porcelain dolls and wooden instruments, along with many other beautiful pieces over the years.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, John Ray Hunley; daughter, Mary Sue Hunley Bishir; parents, Marshall Russell, and Mary Sue Cody; sister, Patsy Kinsler; and her brothers, Marshall "Buddie" Russell, and Robert "Bob" Russell.
She is survived by her special granddaughter and caregiver, LaDonna Seifert; children, Tony Branham (Tona), Ann Branham, and Cathy Emery (Tom); as well as several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
The family would like to say a special thank you to her hospice nurse, Hannah Salyer, for the love and care given to Kathryn over the last few months.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home in Church Hill. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Kevin Taylor officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Hilltop Mission Cemetery in Kingsport, TN with Pastor Danny Grizzle officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 PM to go in procession. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
