Kathryn McManus, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025 with family by her side. Born August 6, 1932 in Painesville, she was the 3rd of 8 children born to Kathryn, nee Conklin and Clyde Brainard. Her family moved to a farm in Perry when she was 12. She graduated from Perry High School, class of 1950. After graduation Kathryn worked as a nurse's aid at Lake County Hospital. She loved working in the hospital and considered a nursing career. August 3rd, 1952 she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) McManus. They were married for 49 years when he passed away in March, 2000. She did not pursue her dream of a career in nursing, but instead opted to stay home and raise her family.
During her life, Kathryn was a fiercely independent, strong-willed woman. She never let anything stop her from achieving her goals. She was a force and her ability to overcome challenges was inspiring. She lost her eyesight in 2013 and continued to live in her condo in Painesville for 5 years before moving to the Toledo area in 2018 to be closer to her daughter.
Her passions were many. She was a voracious reader and ordered books from the Ohio Library for the Blind after she lost her eyesight. She and Bob were members of Quail Hollow Swim Club. They enjoyed bowling, playing cards, going to movies and plays. They often went on short trips with friends Helen and Roy Baldner.
Kathryn's legacy lives on through her cherished family. She leaves behind her loving son, Alan McManus, daughter, Rebecca (Gary) Hatcher, grandchildren Shawn (Richelle) McManus, Katie (Jeff) Yeary, Christopher (Esther) Hatcher, Zachaery (Katie) Hatcher, and Garen Hatcher, great-grandchildren, Jeffrey James "JJ" Yeary, Cohen, and Charlotte Hatcher. She is also survived by her siblings, Carol Miller and Keith (Molly) Brainard.
Preceding her in death were her beloved parents, her loving husband, Robert; brothers, Clyde, Daryl, Larry; and sisters, Marjorie Miller, and Sharon Evans.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, 368 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio 44077. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15th at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry, 3918 Main Street, Perry, Ohio 44081. Burial will follow in Perry Cemetery.
