Kathy Sue Hogoboom Jack, age 71, was released from her pain and suffering on August 30, 2025, at Kansas Medical Center in Andover, Kansas.
Kathy was born on March 30, 1954, in
El Dorado, Kansas, to Albert and Phyllis Jo (Schmidt) Hogoboom. Kathy was a lifelong resident of Butler County, graduating from El Dorado High School in 1972. Her formative years revolved around horse shows, the El Dorado skating rink, and driving her lime green Mustang as fast as it would go. After graduation, Kathy worked several odd jobs before joining her father's business, Albert Hogoboom Oilfield Trucking, in 1975. This was destined to be her life's work, spending 50 years dedicated to the company – 40 years as dispatcher and office manager, and the last ten years as owner.
In November 1980, Kathy had a knock on the door at her house. She opened it, and in walked a man with three little girls in tow. She had sworn off men, planning to be single for the rest of her life. That was, until she met those three little girls. She instantly fell in love with them. The only downside was that it was a package deal – and the man came along with them. Kathy married Loren Jack on January 16, 1981, in Las Vegas, Nevada – this union instantly making them a complete family.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 44 years, Loren Jack; children, Missy (Casey) Gooding, Lindy (Zac) Sundgren, and Mindy (Brian) Akery; grandchildren, Hayden (Londyn) Howard, Dylan Akery, Jaydon Sundgren, Cannon McCormack, Quinn Sundgren, Cheyan Gooding, and Owen Akery; and one great-grandchild, Collins Howard. Kathy is also survived by her mother, Phyllis Samuels; loved one, Patty Hogoboom; cousin and confidante, Debbie Wiese; as well as numerous special cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was predeceased by her father, Albert Hogoboom; bonus father, Jack Samuels; brother, Carl Hogoboom; and grandparents, Virgil and Faye Hogoboom, and Emanuel "Monie" and Evelyn Schmidt.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the Kansas Oil Museum Venue in
El Dorado, Kansas. Burial will follow at Leon Cemetery.
Kathy will lie in state at Carlson Funeral Home on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kansas Oil Museum.
