JACKSONVILLE - Kathy Lewis Watson, 68, of Jacksonville, and formerly of Swansboro, died Saturday, May 25,2024 at her home, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 1,2024 at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Watson was born on November 16, 1955, in Baltimore, MD. She grew up in Taylor, MI with her adoptive parents. After high school she made her way to Onslow County, where she would live out the rest of her life. Kathy loved her family more than anything. Although she was never able to have any children of her own, she was blessed with an "adopted daughter", who she loved dearly, as well as her "adopted grandkids." She always looked at the bright side of things, even after a second cancer diagnosis, she was still smiling.
She was preceded in death by her father Henry Lewis; adopted parents Doris Lewis Clay and Charles Clay; and her husband Johnny Watson.
Survivors include her sister, Nancy Burns (Pete) of Swansboro; cousin, Gladys Lewis of Whitmore, SC; nieces Tiffany Cobbs (Mikal) & Rebecca Casey (Patrick) both of Swansboro; great-nephews, Patrick, Christopher and Owen; partner, Stanley Lovitt; Johnnie Beth & kids (Hannah Riley & Cruz Ngeskebel) who she adopted as her own; and many other cousins step-brothers and step-sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

kathy watson was my grandmother, and this is us. everytime she would go to relay, i would go with her. every year at christmas, i would help her set up her tree. everytime she would do a puzzle, i would help her find the right pieces. she was a great grandma on this earth, not only to me but as to my brother israel as well. even though at times she could get mean and grumpy, she was always loved. she was so strong & brave for everything she had overcame, and everything shed always tried to fight. im grateful me and my family were the ones she wanted to be with when she passed. we all love you katkat.
