Kathy Wimberley, 82, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Lynn County Hospital, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.

Kathy was born on January 7, 1944, in Spur, Texas, to Elmer and Ruth Thomason. She grew up in Spur alongside her brother, Rayburn, and her sisters, Nell and Elaine. Rayburn and his wife, Latricia, and Nell and her husband, Clifford, preceded her in death. Her sister Elaine and husband Bill live in Sanford, North Carolina.

Kathy grew up and attended school in Spur where she learned the values of hard work, kindness, and a deep devotion to family. Over the years, she worked in a variety of roles, including office manager at G & G Tong Rental, secretary at the Denver City Church of Christ, loan teller at Muleshoe State Bank, and administrator at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing. No matter the job title, Kathy was the steady hand who kept things running smoothly. She handled administrative work, reconciled books, and cared for customers.

On March 11, 1962, Kathy married H. P. Hagins in Spur, Texas. They built a loving home together until his passing on January 26, 1988. On December 26, 1992, she married Ed Wimberley. Ed passed away on September 8, 2019.

Kathy’s greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her children, Nicki Strickland and husband Jim of Tahoka, and Jeff Hagins and wife Kristin of Lubbock.

She was “Nana” to six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Mandi and husband David Gustin (Hagin and Katy) of Amarillo, Monica and husband Travis Windham (Blake, Hays, and Hudson coming in April 2026) of Lubbock, Kayla Strickland of Tahoka, Karen Rendon and wife Angela Rendon (James and Ja’Lyn) of O’Donnell, Preston Hagins of Lubbock, and Noah Hagins and wife Savannah of Amarillo.

One of Kathy’s greatest passions was quilting. She poured love into every stitch, creating quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Each quilt was made especially for the person receiving it. These quilts will remain treasured reminders of her warmth, creativity, and the way she expressed love.

Kathy was nurturing, strong, and deeply family oriented. She loved nothing more than watching her family spend time together. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and most recently attended Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock, where she found encouragement, friendship, and faith.

A memorial service honoring Kathy’s life will be held Friday, February 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sunset Church of Christ.

Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love, steadiness, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
