Kathye Barnes Anderson, age 81, of Madison, Alabama, and formerly of Brooksville,, passed away at the Athens Health and Rehabilitation Center in Athens, AL, on November 21, 2025. Mrs. Anderson was born in Tupelo, MS, the daughter of the late Wanda McCarley Barnes and James Edward Barnes. She was a graduate of West Point High School, attended East Mississippi Junior College, and recieved her Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University. As an educator, she completed 32 years of teaching service in the public schools of Mississippi serving in the Okolona School District and Oktibbeha County School District. While living in Okolona, Mrs. Anderson was a member and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church, member and past president of the Lanier Club/MS Federated Women's Clubs, and member of Delta Kappa Gamma honorary educator organization. She married James L. "Jimmy" Anderson, Jr. on August 11, 1960, in Fayette, Alabama, and they were married for 53 years. After she and her husband moved to Brooksville, she became an active member of Brooksville Baptist Church serving on numerous committees. She also served on the BEMP Cemetery Board of Directors as member and secretary. Later in life, Mrs. Anderson moved to Madison, Alabama, to be near her son, Jim, and joined First Baptist Church of Madison, AL. She cherished her years of being an active member in this congregation.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James L. "Jimmy" Anderson, Jr., on November 1, 2013; her son, John Tyree Anderson; her two sisters, Edna Barnes Ganaway and Julia Barnes Segars; her sister-in-law, Louise Anderson Fisher; her Brother-in-law, Joe Anderson; her nephew, Will Reifers, and her Father-in-Law and Mother-in-law, James L. Anderson, Sr. and Louise Wilkins Anderson.
Visitation for Mrs. Anderson will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 P.M. from Brooksville Cemetery in Brooksville, with Dr. James Towery officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include her son, James L. "Jim" Anderson, III (Kathy) of Madison, Alabama; Two Granddaughters: Julia Anderson of North Carolina and Ashleigh Childers (Chris) of Eva, Alabama and Two Grandsons: Jacob Anderson of Huntsville, Alabama, and Anthony Reinoehl (Kelsey) of Roswell, Georgia; Two Great Grandsons: Beckham and Grant Reinoehl both of Roswell, Georgia; Sister, Sharon Reifers (David) of Columbus, and Brother, Prentiss Barnes (Tiffany) of Seabrook, Texas; Brothers-in-Law, David Segars of Saltillo, and Steve Ganaway of Dorsey, along with many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Brown, David Butler, Ronnie Durham, Scott Heard, Perry Robbins, Walter Hines, and Chris Childers.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of Athens Health and Rehabilitation Center and her many former friends at Brooksville Baptist Church.
