Kay Koeman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gillies Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Lynden on Jan. 10, 2025.
Kay Koeman, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2025, surrounded by family after carrying on with patient endurance through a 5 year cancer journey.
Elaine Kay Lubben was born in Luverne, Minnesota in 1943 to John and Martha (Hofkamp) Lubben. Growing up on a Leota MN family farm, she was the 10th child in a family of 11; an identical twin to Elone Fay.
Kay attended Edgerton Christian School then nurses training in Sioux Falls, S.D. She later moved to Grand Rapids, MI and was employed at Blodgett Hospital while attending Calvin College part time. It was there she learned of an upcoming Navigators Bible Conference where she met Ken Koeman. After 9 months of courtship, they were married on June 10, 1966, at the Calvin Seminary Chapel.
Kay was the cherished wife of Ken for 52 years and the grateful mother to Kent & Jodi (Riemersma) Koeman, and Kate deRegt (Ben). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Jamison & Katie (Diekema) Koeman, Arianna Koeman & Colin Swaim, Isaiah & Sarah (Timmer) deRegt, Hadley Koeman, and Andrew deRegt.
Known for her hospitality and love towards so many, she partnered with her husband Ken in a life of ministry for over 50 years. He proceeded her in death in 2018.
A memorial service will be held and livestreamed at Sonlight Community Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, January 11 at 10:00 a.m., 8800 Bender Road, Lynden. (To watch a recording of the service, please press the "Watch Webcast" button under the Memorial Service information under the "Events" portion of this page.)
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Kay's name be made to Sonlight Church Benevolence.
