Kathleen Rose "Kay" Scherrman, 97, passed away at Brookdale Mariana Butte, Loveland, Colorado on May 8, 2025.
Kay was born December 10, 1927 in Dyersville, Iowa, the second of six daughters born to Leo and Loretta (Tobin) Soppe. Kay attended school in Dyersville, Iowa and graduated in 1945 from Xavier High School. Kay graduated with a nursing degree in 1948 from Mount Mercy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She worked as a surgical nurse and later as an RN while raising a family. Kay married James Edward Scherrman November 26, 1949 at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier, Dyersville, Iowa. They had a wonderful 51 years of marriage. Kay was an active member of the various catholic churches in Dyersville, Iowa, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Fort Dodge, Iowa, Pocahontas, Iowa and Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was a member of the Shamrock Club, Mount Mercy Alumni Association, and a volunteer at Satori Hospital. Kay and Jim enjoyed many vacations together around the United States and Mexico when not tending to the Pocahontas Ready Mix business. Kay was also an avid golfer and card player. She was always up for a card game, even in her last days.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Scherrman (Mark Cormier) of Lone Tree, Colorado, Sally Brent (Rick) of Loveland, Colorado and Chrissy Jackson (Dave) of Cedar Falls, Iowa; five grandchildren, Chad Brent (Lori), Danielle Polansky (John), Alysia Sturgis (Josh), Shannon Miller (Brandon) and Lindsay Jackson; five great-grandchildren, Madison Polansky, Camryn Polansky, Ashlyn Brent, Drake Sturgis and Quinn Sturgis and a sister Janet Felderman (Jack) of Dubuque, Iowa and brothers-in-law Emmett Scherrman (Ann) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Milton McMahon, Dubuque, Iowa.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Kathy Scherrman, husband, Jim Scherrman, and sisters, Mary Ann Donnelly, Norma Chiaramonte, Wilma Nugent, and Velma McMahon.
A celebration of Kay's life will be held at a family home in June in Loveland, CO, followed by a July 22 mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The family would like to thank the wonderful help at Brookdale as well as Bristol Hospice for taking such good care of her.
