Jeanette Korrect, age 95, of Laurens, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Jeanette was born on April 18, 1930 to Douglas & Winnie (Peterson) Rigby on the family farm, northeast of Laurens. She was the youngest of three – after big sister Lucile, and brother Robert.
In her early years, Jeanette attended Cummins #2 country school close to the farm. She then spent her high school years at Mallard High. After graduation, she attended AIB in Des Moines for further business classes and especially enjoyed living at Esther Hall.
In early 1948, she returned to Laurens to work at the bank, continuing employment there for nearly 40 years.
Shortly after returning to Laurens, Jeanette was introduced to Darrell (Huey) Korrect, who had just returned from serving in the US Army, European Theater, WW2. They were married on May 24,1949 at the Laurens Methodist Church.
Their first home was a small travel trailer located next to Huey's parent's home in Laurens. In 1951, the newlyweds bought a small acreage on the southeast corner of town. They loved the "farm look" of the property. Jeanette and Huey had four children. In 1952, son Steven was born, then Jerry, David and Susan. It became a very busy household in the neighborhood that became known as "Rabbit Gulch". Jeanette was a loving mother to her four children, and she instilled in them strong values that have served them well. She was deeply respected and adored by her nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Following Huey's passing in 1990, Jeanette devoted the next 10 years to creating and publishing a pictorial and family history book, titled, "The World On A String," which will be treasured by the family forever.
She was a member of Laurens Methodist Church where she served on various committees – her favorite being Missions. She taught kindergarten Sunday School for many years and was very active in the United Methodist Women.
Jeanette loved her community. She served on the Laurens Public Library Board of Trustees, Laurens Women's Club, Laurens Genies, and Pocahontas County Historical Society. Jeanette enjoyed listening to 1st and 2nd graders practice their new reading skills in the halls at school.
Jeanette was a voracious reader. She loved music and playing the piano, even taking piano lessons again in retirement. She loved word games, especially Scrabble. Her flower gardens were her "happy place". She enjoyed international travel opportunities with Huey, via his job at Mather Implement, and visiting family around the country.
Jeanette is survived and dearly missed by three sons and a daughter, Steven (Mary) Korrect, Bettendorf, IA, Jerry (Linda) Korrect, Cottontown, TN, David (Vickie) Korrect, Oklahoma City, OK and Suzy (Frank) Herdzina, Greensboro, GA; nine grandchildren, Garrett (Catherine) Korrect, Cameron (Lisa) Korrect, Angie (Jon) Webb, Dan (Lindsey) Korrect, William Sage, Damon Korrect, Victoria Korrect, Bethany (Elliott) Wickenden, Allison (Pete) Wallenhorst; fifteen great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Andrew, Audrey, Evie, Rylan, Graham, Grace, Harper, Hank, Ava, Addie, Blair, Abigail, Oliver and Noelle, and nieces, Nancy Josephson and Vikie Norris and nephews, Allen, Kevin and Dennis Rigby, and families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas & Winnie Rigby, husband & father of her children, Darrell Korrect, sister Lucile & Clyde Freeman and brother Robert & Millie Rigby.
Jeanette touched the lives of so many people. She will truly be missed and will never be forgotten.
Memorials in memory of Jeanette are suggested to either the Laurens United Methodist Church or the Laurens Public Library.
