Kay Warmbier Obituary

Kay Lorraine Warmbier
Kay Lorraine Warmbier, 76, of Midland, passed away Sunday morning, February 9, 2025 at Story Point of Midland. She was born May 24, 1948 in Bay City, daughter of the late Ralph J. and Jean S. (Anderson) Forbes. At the age of eight, Kay moved with her family to Midland where she graduated from Midland High School. She went on to attend Delta College, furthering her education at Central Michigan University, and eventually earning her master's degree from Michigan State University.
Kay had a diverse work history. She was employed by the Midland Daily News in various capacities and worked for Prudential Insurance as a sales agent. Feeling called to work with those wishing to continue their education, Kay became a co-op and placement coordinator for Davenport University. Toward the end of her career, she worked with Saginaw Valley State University as an academic advisor for students.
Kay was a devoted Christian and accepted Christ as her savior at age eleven. As a member of Midland Evangelical Free Church, she dedicated her time as a Sunday School teacher, church librarian, and helped run Vacation Bible School for several years.
On April 9, 1965, Kay married the love of her life, Raymond Warmbier. Together they raised their family in a loving home. A tremendous family woman, Kay delighted in being the most supportive mother, grandmother, and wife she could be, encouraging her family in all their endeavors.
Kay loved making any house feel like a home and when she and Ray moved to Sanford, she did just that. Her eye for color and decoration was exquisite. Kay felt no home was complete without a dog and she owned and showed her beautiful papillons which she cared for over 16 years. Although home is where her heart was, Kay enjoyed camping with the family in their pop-up tent, trailer, and fifth wheel over the years.
Kay was a magnificent woman with a kind and loving heart. She truly listened and cared for other people's needs and feelings. The gift of knowing her is a treasure that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Kay is survived by her loving husband, Ray Warmbier; children, Gary (Heather) Warmbier and Kevin (Kate) Warmbier; grandchildren, Alexandra, Grace, Wesley, William, and Vivian.
Funeral services for Kay will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2025 from Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Midland Evangelical Free Church. I worked with Kay for a few years at Midland Daily News. Our desks were next to each other for a year & we talked & laughed together & became friends. She had a positive impact on my Christian walk, which I was able to share with her later. She was a wonderful example in all that she did. I still remember her from time to time & I will continue to be thankful that I had the privilege to know her. My sympathies to you all.

I first met Kay in high school. We didn´t see each other often, but through the years when we did happen to meet it was always heartwarming and certainly a joy. I´m sure anyone she knew could call her friend. Ray, you and your family have my deepest sympathy. Please know she was appreciated and will always be thought of fondly. Sincerely, Anna
