Kaye Mitchell Obituary
Kaye Eckersley Mitchell - born August 18, 1950, in Lehi, UT to Philip and Beverly Eckersley, passed away at her home in Orem, January 7, 2024. A loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend she was a guiding light to many.
Kaye was born and lived in Lehi through her elementary years. In these younger years she got to spend time adventuring outdoors pretty much wherever she and her siblings wanted, as long as it was within whistling distance of her mom.
From Lehi, her family moved to Layton where she graduated with honors from Davis High School. There she was a member of Pro Schola, a group that marched, participated in pep rallies and supported the teams at each sporting event. She was also a member of the German Club and Future Homemakers of America.
After high school she attended Southern Utah State College where she met and married Bob Mitchell. They moved to Orem in 1975, to the house she lived in the remainder of her life. It was in this tiny house she raised 5 children. Although she and Bob later divorced, they pro-actively put their kids first, working hard to maintain a harmonious relationship. This was an effort that we as children acknowledge took work and are grateful to them for doing.
She worked in the school systems for many years. Beginning as a teacher's aide working alongside Dona Ford, who would become her best and most trusted friend. After being an aide for many years, Kaye went back to school in her late 40's to complete her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She became a full-time teacher in the Alpine District where she worked until she retired in 2018.
Kaye was always active and loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, skiing, and walking. She also loved to read, play games, listen to music and sing in the church choir. She spent hours upon hours in her yard, taking care of the lawn, trees and flowers. She knew all her neighbors, knew their stories, their families and was always concerned about how they were doing.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Over the years she held just about every position there was available to her. She loved the gospel, loved the people she was surrounded by and held an unwavering faith in her love for Christ.
Family was everything to Kaye. Immediate and extended family alike, they were all important to her. She cherished her children and probably even more, her grandchildren. She loved each of them unconditionally and was so proud of them. She gave unwavering support to both her kids and grandkids, attending every event, game, or performance she could. She had the biggest heart and truly wanted the best for each of them.
Kaye was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Beverly Eckersley, her brother Philip Kent Eckersley, her son Nathan Philip Mitchell, and her son-in-law, James Mayoh. She is survived by her children, Kristine Mayoh, Angell (Richard) Nelson, Alisa Mitchell, Scott (Crystal) Mitchell, her 8 grandchildren, Baylee, Taylor, Eldon, Chelsea, Ty, Katy, Jax and Cam, her 6 great grandchildren, her sister Karen (Bruce) Allgood, brother Gordon (Debbie) Eckersley and many nieces and nephews.
