Kaye "Jane" Staples (Gerry), age 82, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, at home.
Kaye was born on May 18, 1942, in Wisconsin Rapids and was adopted by Herbert and Frances Gerry of Port Edwards. Jane graduated from John Edwards High School and then left the central Wisconsin area in 1961. Jane was married to Ralph Coerper and Lyle Davis, which both ended in divorce, but blessed her with two children, Rick Anthony Coerper and Dawn Louise Davis. In 1971, Jane returned to Wisconsin Rapids with her two children.
In 1972, Kaye met Carl Staples at Staples Sewing Center and then began working for him in 1973. Jane and Carl got married in 1976 and even though they divorced in 1996, they remained in business together until she purchased it from him in 2008. The business was originally located on 1st Avenue and then eventually moved to Kaye's home on Kingston Road. Kaye loved her business and all the customers who supported her.
On February 13, 2009, Kaye married her true love, Dale Cornwell. They were married until his passing in 2010. Kaye and Dale played in a band together, The J and D Alternate Band.
Kaye is survived by her dear friend, Mary (Darwin) Mras; daughter, Dawn (Isiah) Crawford; grandsons, Joshua Davis and Zachary Robl; and great-grandchildren, Victor and Victoria Davis and Brooklyn Robl.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Rick Coerper; husband, Dale Cornwell; and ex-husband, Carl Staples.
Thank you to St. Croix Hospice, specifically Kaye's "two Jens", for the compassionate care given to Kaye. Another thanks to Kaye's neighbor, Lori, for their daily Yahtzee games.
