Kaye Frances Stephens, age 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Born on July 5, 1938, in Meridian, Mississippi, to Reed and Mary Shirley, Kaye lived a life filled with grace, compassion, laughter, and love.
Kaye began her career as a nurse at Clayton General Hospital, where her caring nature and gentle spirit touched countless lives. After years of dedicated service, she embraced a new calling as a full-time homemaker, where her nurturing heart continued to shine-this time focused on her family, friends, and community.
Active in the North Clayton Athletic Association and a faithful member of Heatherwood Baptist Church before joining Macedonia Baptist Church, Kaye poured her energy into the people and places that mattered most to her. A breast cancer survivor, she faced every challenge with courage, faith, and an unwavering smile.
Kaye and her beloved husband, Jerry Stephens, shared 37 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures. Together, they enjoyed traveling and were proud members of the Willys Overland Club, creating cherished memories on the open road and in the company of dear friends.
Although few ever knew, Kaye was deeply active in benevolence work-quietly providing money, toys, and food to underprivileged families throughout her community. Her generosity and compassion left lasting impacts far beyond what words can measure.
Kaye was preceded in death by her first husband, Leon Ford; her father, Reed Shirley; her mother, Mary Shirley; her brothers, Roger Shirley and Kenneth Reed Shirley; and her sister, Mary Cooper.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Stephens; her son, Jimmy Ford (Angela); her stepson, Terry Stephens (Melissa); her stepdaughter, Connie Vandevander (Bruce); and her grandchildren, Hogan Ford, Brittney Stephens, Alexander Stephens, and Adam Trammell-each of whom carry her love and legacy forward.
In lieu of flowers or meal trains, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in Kaye's memory.
Kaye's life was one of compassion, devotion, and joy-a beautiful reminder of how much one heart can give.
