Keith Penman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by DeBaun Funeral Homes & Crematory - Springhill Chapel on May 2, 2022.
Keith C. Penman, 73, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully on May 1, 2022, after a long fight with Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born June 22, 1948, at home in Vigo County to the late John Robert Penman and Ella Mae (Britt) Penman. At the age of seven he and his parents moved to the desert community of Trona, California southwest of Death Valley where they lived for years before returning to Terre Haute. After his return to Terre Haute Keith joined the Army and served from 1972 to 1975 in the 226th Military Police Co., Ft. Benjamin Harrison Indianapolis, receiving an honorable discharge. He was a patriot who loved his country and the freedoms provided. Keith worked in the trades for numerous years before retiring from Laborers Local 204.
Growing up in Trona was a unique experience where he developed lifelong friends. He loved the desert and thought it beautiful even though to the casual observer it looked so desolate. He especially enjoyed returning there for class reunions, attending the 50th in 2017. Keith was an avid outdoors person with a keenness for hunting, fishing, marksmanship, and four-wheeling in various places across the U.S. Those familiar with him would recognize him in his pickup truck because two German shepherds were usually riding in the back. Keith had a special fondness for every one of the dogs he raised over the years. After becoming a father, he became involved in the boy's activities such as Dixie Bee baseball, living history re-enactments, and camping out, among other things. In his later years he especially enjoyed spending time with his Grandsons.
Surviving is his wife Rita (Power) Penman, two sons: Jesse Penman of Atlanta, GA, and David C. Penman (Aislyn Reick) and grandsons: Landen and Killian Penman of Terre Haute. Sister-in-law Anita (Power) Howell of Adairsville, GA, and several nieces and nephews. Also close to his heart are John R. Penman of Huntsville, Al and Chad Gilbert of Pimento, IN. Keith was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John R. Penman Jr. (Joyce), Paul J. Penman (Geneva) and Donald E. Penman (Mary).
Visitation will be held at DeBaun Funeral Home on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a short service immediately following visitation. Private burial will be at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at Southwood Healthcare Facility and Elara Caring Hospice for their care and kindness.
