Keith Francis Schuette

Born: October 28, 1938

Died: July 3, 2025

With great sorrow, we announce the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather, Keith Schuette, age 86, of Hanover, Michigan, who passed away in his sleep on July 3, 2025.

Born in Jackson, Michigan, to Francis (Ray) and Hazel Schuette, Keith spent his early years in Michigan Center. At the age of 5, he moved to Hanover where he graduated high school in 1955. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Vivian (Cole), and they built a life together filled with love, laughter, and dedication to family.

Keith was a master mechanic and worked at Consumers Energy for 47 years. He was a pillar in the Hanover Community serving in many roles. He was the Hanover Village Marshall for 20 years. He was also a firefighter on the Hanover Township Fire Department, and was a paramedic on the ambulance service. There was nothing he couldn't do or wouldn't do for the community. For the Village of Hanover, Keith plowed snow, repaired anything that broke, trimmed trees, hung Christmas decorations, prepared the town for the annual 4th of July celebration, and much much more.

While Keith was well known and dedicated to his community, it's his dedication to his family that is his true legacy. He was a faithful, loving, and supportive husband to Vivian for 67 years. As a father, he was strong, steady, and supportive-always present with a kind word, a firm hand, and an open heart. Despite the many challenges of raising seven children, including one with special needs, he was always a calm, collected, and seemingly unflappable. His sense of humor and attitude toward life were remarkable and left an incredible example for his family.

Keith loved cars! He loved to drive them, buy them, and fix them. He even loved to sell them and worked at McMaster's Chevrolet in Concord as a salesman in his spare time. Having been raised on a farm, he also loved to garden. He was highly skilled in gardening and often produced more vegetables than his large family could eat. He would give them away, along with cartons of eggs that his chickens produced, to friends and community members.

Keith was proceeded in death by his parents, father Francis (Ray) Schuette and mother Hazel Schuette; siblings Jack Schuette, Dorr Schuette, Wayne Schuette, and Maxine Avery; daughter in-law Vicky Schuette, and granddaughter Lauren Rae Kennedy.

Keith is survived by his wife Vivian; siblings Sharon Boushelle, Jackie Fritze, and Dean (Esther) Schuette; daughters Cheryl Wright, Debra Phipps, Vicki (Dave) Kennedy, Lynda (Mark) Zietlow; sons Jim Schuette, Dean Schuette, and Gary (Sharla) Schuette, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren; and, his Best Friend, his dog Buster. We will miss his guidance, his laughter, and the quiet strength that grounded our family. His legacy will live on in each of us.

On August 2, 2025, from 12pm to 4pm, a luncheon will take place at Heritage Park, 121 Teft Street in Hanover, to celebrate Keith's life. Upon his request, a private memorial service will be held, prior to the luncheon, at the Hanover Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, and upon Keith's request, donations can be made to the Hanover Horton Historical Society in honor of his memory.
