Kenneth Edward Osberg (Ken) was born in Watertown, SD on July 10, 1945 to Lyle and Eleanor Osberg and lived there until 1957 when the family moved to Pierre.
Ken attended schools in Pierre and graduated from Riggs High School in 1964. He worked a number of after school jobs including paperboy and working at the State Theater. He attended Northern State University and received a Bachelor's degree in 1974 in industrial arts and later, in 1985 a Master's degree in the same field. He taught at a number of high schools across the state, including Rapid City, Clark, Crow Creek, and White River. When not teaching he worked in the Pierre area often in the construction field. He also worked for Pierre Farmers Elevator for awhile. After obtaining a Commercial Driver's License Ken worked for Van Diest Trucking and hauled chemicals to various businesses across North and South Dakota before retiring in 2017.
Ken had a number of interests. He was a student of South Dakota history and was quite interested in geography as well. Ken also read a lot of military history and was often called upon to answer questions concerning World War II. He had a small collection of rifles and loved cars, owning many different makes and models. He pursued various activities, particularly pheasant and goose hunting as well as fishing. He especially enjoyed outings with his father and brothers as they took to fields primarily in the Pierre area. He had some good hunting stories and would often retell his experiences with humor.
He moved to midtown apartments in latter years and made a number of friends. He was known to some visiting children as "the candy man", handing out candy whenever he was aware of their presence.
He was a longtime member of Lutheran Memorial Church.
Ken is survived by a brother, Bernie and wife Linda of Rapid City. He is also survived by a nephew, Carl, of Minneapolis, MN (grand nephew James) and niece, Kimberly of Rapid City (grand neice Katherine). Also surviving is sister-in-law Carrie Osberg of Ord, NE. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Jim and Lee.

Just happened on Kenny's obit and since we had been friends from our Watertown days as close neighbors, it is a sad sad day. We were also room mates at Northern for a while and continued a great but distant friendship for all these years since. We would see each other at the Legion when I traveled to Pierre for my work and he never lost his dry sense of humor. I knew and appreciated the whole Osberg family and send condolences to his brother Bernie.

As a high school classmate I remember Ken as being so upbeat, friendly, and fun to talk to. When we met during HS reunions I found him to be the same. I so regret that I had not made contact with him over the years even though I thought of him often. He will remain an inspiration.
