Kenneth Stauffer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones & Casey Funeral Home - Salmon on Oct. 1, 2025.
Kenneth E. Stauffer of Salmon, Idaho died peacefully at home Sunday September 21, 2025 surrounded by his beloved land and family. Ken was born July 1950 in Lancaster, PA, son of Kenneth P. and Eleanor Louise (Ditzler) Stauffer. The oldest of five children, Ken joined the cross country team in high school while also working flipping burgers and mowing lawns. He was elected senior class president at Central Dauphin East High School and then attended Penn State University 1968 - 69 before enlisting in the U.S. Navy.
While in the Reserves, Ken attended Texas A&M and graduated with a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture. After a scientific, nationwide search Ken took a job with the U.S. Forest Service in Twin Falls, later transferring to the Salmon National Forest until his retirement in 2006. As Recreation Program Manager at USFS, Ken's work continues to benefit and be enjoyed by many visitors to our public lands.
Ken married Ramona Combs in a beautiful mountain meadow June 1985. They celebrated their 40th anniversary earlier this year. Ken and Ramona served as wonderful guides for all their visitors who wanted to experience the American west, including the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area. Ken is survived by his wife, Ramona of Salmon, and son, Nicholas Combs of Boise, Idaho (wife Jennifer), granddaughters Emma and Abilgail, sisters Mary Tanner (David) of PA, Susan Grogan (Michael) of PA, and Kathleen Ross (Karl) of VT. He was predeceased by his brother Michael (Catherine) of PA and his parents.
Ken was a man of few words, and this is already too many. Donation may be sent in memory of Kenneth to the Jackie Caivano memorial scholarship fund at The Frontier Credit Union in Salmon, Idaho
