Kenneth A. Barthel, age 81, of St. Michael passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.
Ken was born on September 5, 1943 in St. Michael, MN to Alfred and Bernadette (Vetsch) Barthel.
He is survived by the love of his life of 59 years: Cathy (Beaudry); his children: Kevin (Heidi) Barthel, Sharon (Dan) Berning, Dan (Kathy) Barthel, Tony (Kris) Barthel, Michelle (Dave) Steele, Angela (Brian) Lenneman and Gina Barthel; twenty-five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and three more on the way; a brother: Jerome (Shirley) Barthel; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Bernadette (Vetsch), parents-in-law Elmer and Dorothy (Hackenmueller) Beaudry, brothers Duane Barthel and "Willie" Barthel, a brother-in-law Don Beaudry, a sister-in-law LaVonne Beaudry and by a nephew Kerry Barthel.
Ken is best known for his love of people, always finding something to compliment about others, great generosity, incredible sense of humor, ability to beat anyone in checkers and love for playing cards. He was a fabulous story teller and quick witted to the very end. He delighted in making others laugh more than anything. Among his most prized possessions was likely his box of pranks that he tested on all his children, their friends and grandkids over the years.
Ken and Cathy loved traveling but were most happy surrounded by loved ones at the kitchen table enjoying popcorn while playing cards.
He was a lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church and took pride in raising his children in the Catholic faith. He was so very proud of his children and their beautiful families.
Ken did everything fast and was competitive which is why he no doubt died on the same day, but just a few hours before, his brother Willard.
