Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fickes Funeral Home on Feb. 24, 2026.
Kenneth Martin Bee, known lovingly by many as "Whitey the Mechanic," he went to be with the Lord peacefully of natural causes on February 17, 2026, at Crestwood Care Center in
Shelby, Ohio.He was born on December 10, 1937, in Ashland-was a man whose faith, love for family, and steadfast work ethic left lasting impressions on everyone who knew him.
Kenneth grew up with a strong sense of integrity and purpose, embodied in one of his guiding principles: "A man's handshake is more valuable than a contract." That spirit of honesty and faithfulness would become a constant throughout his life. He married the love of his life, Mary Carpenter, on December 30, 1955-a union defined by devotion and perseverance. In the early years, Kenneth would travel each weekend from Ashland to Spencer, West Virginia, along winding backroads to see his beloved Mary. Those long, treacherous drives became treasured memories of a love story built on commitment and determination.
After settling down with Mary, Kenneth began his working life at the Flxible Bus Company in Loudonville, Ohio, where he helped build buses. Later, he followed his passion for mechanical work and became a certified A.S.E. Automotive Expert, mastering every required level of certification. A trusted mechanic across Ashland and Richland County, he became known not just for his skill under the hood, but also for his fairness, humor, and willingness to help anyone in need. His reputation as "Whitey the Mechanic" was built on more than knowledge-it was built on heart.
Kenneth was one of the original, lifetime members of the Ashland Bowmen, reflecting his lifelong love of the outdoors. Archery was his ultimate passion, one he passed down proudly to his son and grandson. Whether bow in hand or fishing rod at the ready, Kenneth found peace in the woods and along the water. His favorite Bible verse, Genesis 27:3-"Now then, get your equipment-your quiver and bow-and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me"-perfectly reflected both his faith and his love for nature.
Beyond his work and hobbies, Kenneth was a deeply generous soul. His faith guided every aspect of his life, and his gratitude to the Lord was evident in everything he did. A talented craftsman, he built handmade clocks using his scroll saw, gifting them to family and friends and donating many to his church's silent auctions to help meet the congregation's needs. Known for giving the shirt off his back-sometimes quite literally-Kenneth's compassion extended to all, but family was EVERYTHING!
