Kenneth J. Berube, 83, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 21st at his home.
Born in
Melrose, MA., he was the son of the late C. Kenneth J. and Mary C. Berube.
He was the beloved husband, of Sandra (Bailey) Berube who survives him and with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on December 19th.
He graduated from Tewksbury High School in 1960. He served in the Navy for six years as an Electronic Technician specializing in communications and teletype equipment and travelled to many countries.
Kenneth retired in 2003 from Verizon Corporation, after 38 years. He worked as a cable splicer and his last 8 years was the Co-Director for the IBEW in Verizon's Next Step Program, from 1995 to 2003. The program provided the opportunity for employees to go to college to earn an Associate degree in Communication Technology.
He was a member of the IBEW local 2321, served on the Executive Board, and as a Unit Chairman of Unit 1 meetings in his IBEW local. In his 38 years at New England Telephone and NYNEX, he worked in the technical field of voice transmission, including fiber optics, multiplexers, and digital transmission.
He coached Little League Baseball for many years in Westford and also the Mets in Dracut. He was part of the committee that introduced T-Ball in Dracut and the first coach to draft young ladies in Little League Baseball.
Kenneth was a member of Christ Church United, and was very active in past years on several commissions, including the famous chicken bar-b-ques. He is most noted for painting the gold accenting in the choir loft, and the organ pipes, which still exists today.
Prior to his illness, he enjoyed many travels in the U.S., Canada and abroad with his wife. Many ski trips with the family and teaching many how to ski. He loved all the crazy white-water rafting and other outside adventures with his wife. But most of all loved the family gatherings and time spent with them. Especially, Christmas Eve bingo games and Pumpkin Day when the family gathered to carve pumpkins.
Kenneth is survived by his daughter Hope C. Neault of Dracut; a son Kenneth C. Berube of Shrewsbury, and his five grandsons, Ian, Colman, Jake, Connor, and Lucas, to whom he was affectionately known as "Bobo". A name given to him by his 1st grandson Ian.
He leaves a brother Robert V. Berube of Florida and a sister Mary Ellen Berube and partner Robert Bird of Boston area; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Kenneth is predeceased; by his son James J. Neault, brother-in-law David K. Bailey and his beloved Georgina, a sister-in-law Audrey R. Pooles and her husband Robert V. Pooles, and sister-in-law Jeanne Berube.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kenneth Berube to either
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,
Shriner's Hospital or to the Paul Center, 39 Concord Rd., Chelmsford, MA, 01824. The Paul Center is dedicated to assisting individuals with disabilities in developing their maximum potential and independence and hosts summer camps and other activities for children with Special Needs.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut.
The church service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 10am at Christ Church United, 10 Arlington Street, Dracut. Please go directly to the church. His interment will be held privately.
