Kenneth Ray Dicus, fondly known as Ken, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was born on November 29, 1945, in Clifton, Tennessee, where he began a life characterized by kindness, gentility, and a commitment to service.
Ken's educational journey included his graduation from Frank Hughes High School in Clifton, Tennessee, Class of 1963. He furthered his education at Central Piedmont, earning an Associate's Degree in Business. His professional career was marked by significant contributions in warehouse management at Firestone Tires, followed by a fulfilling tenure with the U.S. Postal Service from which he eventually retired.
Ken honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969 as an Intelligence Analyst, further exemplifying his dedication to his country. Throughout his life, he embraced various hobbies and interests, including golf, traveling, and hiking, often sharing these adventures with his beloved wife, Jan, and close friends.
His cherished moments included memorable travels and weekends spent at his mountain house, where he would create lasting memories with those he loved. It is here where he found a great community of friends and became a devoted member of Avery's Creek United Methodist Church in Arden, North Carolina,
Ken made significant contributions, including serving as a deacon at Candlewick Baptist. His unwavering faith and community involvement were central to his identity, reflecting the depth of his character.
Ken is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jan; his son Jeffrey Dicus, who is married to Christy; his granddaughter Savannah; and his son Gregory Dicus. He is also remembered by his sister, Ruth Vercelli; nephew Jason Vercelli; great-niece Kasiah Vercelli; and sister-in-law Nell Dicus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Irene Dicus, and his brother James Dicus.
Ken's memory will be honored with visitation and memorial services at Stephenson & Gaskin Funeral Services in Matthews, North Carolina, on September 20, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at Avery's Creek United Methodist in Arden, North Carolina, on September 25, 2024, at 2:00 PM.
Ken Dicus leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
