The Rev. Dr. Kenneth A. Ferguson, of Sutton, MA, passed from our world, surrounded by loved ones, on October 19, 2025 at the age of 72.
Ken was raised in Medfield and attended Medfield Public Schools, then continued his education at Gordon College. He went on to receive his Pastoral degree from Andover Newton Theological Seminary, and then his doctorate in Marriage and Family Counseling at Eastern Baptist Theological School. His pastoral career provided the opportunity to call many beloved corners of New England home, where he led congregations at Pilgrim Congregational (Leominster, MA), Southwest Harbor Congregational (SW Harbor, ME), Woodridge Congregational (Cranston, RI), Storrs Congregational (Storrs, CT), and Central Village Congregational (Central Village, CT). His ministry was wide-ranging and always rooted in love. Ken's quick wit and desire to push the boundaries made for thought provoking sermons and lively, engaging conversations with family and friends.
Ken was also proudly known as "Steeplejack", the host of, The Goldmine, where he brought "good news for a change" to the airwaves of the UConn radio station, WHUS. He played a mixed bag of old and new music, inviting listeners to call in and discuss contemporary topics and inspiring personal reflection. He later hosted a spiritual podcast during the COVID years called, Rooted in Love; a progressive reflection on faith in the world, with an eclectic mix of music, word and humor.
Ken was the son of the late Oakley and Christine (Morse) Ferguson, and was sadly predeceased by his sister Diane McCarthy. Ken was the beloved life partner of Amy Curran. The two shared a mutual respect for one another and supported each other through adventures, triumphs, and tribulations with deep love. His deepest pride came from being a father and grandfather; having his family gather around him to share in love and stories was one of his greatest joys. Sadly, Ken was predeceased by his son Bryan; who left behind two amazing children, Oakley Ferguson (Jeanne Schaeffer) of South Windsor, CT and Paisley Ferguson (Chelsea Gardner) of Charlton, MA. Ken's eldest son, Aaron Ferguson and his wife Tara Cole of South Hadley, MA and their children Caleb and Zoe, along with the rest of the family, will deeply miss spending time with Ken.
Ken took his Scottish heritage to heart, often wearing the Ferguson tartan with pride and embodying the strength and optimism reflected in his clan's words. His favorite motto, drawn from the Ferguson credo, reminds us of his enduring spirit: "Dulcius Ex Asperis" - sweeter after difficulty. As we say goodbye to Ken, let us hold the happy memories and good times close to our hearts, and remember the sun always comes out after the rain.
The family will receive guests at Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home, 15 Miller Street, Medfield, MA 02052, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, visiting will conclude with a family-run prayer service beginning at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ken's name would be greatly appreciated at the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation, http://www.aamds.org

Yesterday

Ken was a mentor and friend...starting as my childhood pastor leading my faith journey and later in adulthood as I became a licensed therapist. Ken was a beacon of hope and light in trying times, always helping me think outside the box to help my clients which were usually unruly teens. He was also my personal sounding board to help process my own grief and trauma. He was an incredible human and I count having him in my life as one of the many blessings I've received... he will be greatly missed! Praying for his family... He loved you so!
