Kenneth W. “Kenny” Hutcheson, 76, of Jefferson, SD, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering of loved ones and friends will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from Noon to 3:00 P.M. at the North Sioux City American Legion/Senior Center, 301 Military Road, North Sioux City, SD.
Kenny was born on December 11, 1948, in Onawa, Iowa, to Harold and Geraldine (Johnson) Hutcheson. He grew up in Onawa and attended school there before enlisting in the United States Army, proudly serving his country in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, Kenny settled in Florida for several years, making many lifelong friends before moving to Jefferson, SD, to be near his mother (Gerri) and stepfather Raymond Hoffman, his brothers, sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
A gifted carpet layer and custom contractor, Kenny was known for his craftsmanship and his keen eye for design. His work reflected both skill and creativity, leaving a lasting mark on countless homes and projects reaching from Florida to the Siouxland area.
Kenny was also a lifelong sports enthusiast. He was a devoted fan of the Florida Gators and the New York Mets, and his love for the game extended beyond cheering from the stands. During his years in Florida, he coached Little League Baseball, with his teams taking home many championships. After moving to Jefferson, he continued to share his passion for sports by coaching softball and umpiring. He took great pride in guiding young athletes, winning many trophies along the way, but more importantly, building memories and friendships.
Beyond the ballfields, Kenny enjoyed countless cribbage games with family and friends. The matches were often spirited—filled with laughter, friendly rivalries, and just a little bit of cheating (the losers always claimed). Kenny had a love for Chevys, especially the Tri-Fives. He was proud of his two ’55s and his '57 and was always looking to complete his collection with a '56. Kenny was an avid hunter (Duck) and loved to smoke meat and make his “Uncle Pie” moonshine for his friends and family.
Above all, Kenny will be remembered for his generous heart; he loved his many nieces and nephews as if they were his own. He loved helping friends and family in need, always showing up with a willing hand and a kind spirit. His care, laughter, and giving ya’ a friendly tease for a hearty laugh will remain with all who knew him.
Kenny is survived by his sister, Linda Girard (Rob Carlson); brothers, Rick (Pam) Hoffman and Charlie (Jane) Hoffman; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as a circle of close friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Raymond Hoffman, his brothers, Thomas Hoffman and Steven Hoffman, and his beloved dog Angel.
