Kenneth (Ken) Eugene Jarrell, 91, a longtime resident of Hillsboro died Tuesday morning September 10, 2024 at his home.
Ken was born on January 15, 1933 in Goose Creek, Arkansas, near Fayetteville, in the Ozark mountains. He was one of the six children born to Chris and Flora (Anderson) Jarrell. At the age of three he moved with his family to Campbell, CA. During WWII the family relocated to Hillsboro, OR where he would spend most of his remaining life.
Ken was a 1952 graduate of Hillsboro High School. While attending school he lettered in Football, Wrestling and Track. He was team captain of the 1952 State Championship Wrestling team. He participated in many other activities, including acting in the school play and serving as Junior and Senior class President.
He joined the Airforce in 1954. While stationed at Mather Air Force base he met and married his bride of 63 years, LaJuanna June (Jones) Jarrell.
After graduating from Linfield College, Ken taught High School Mathematics, also coaching football and wrestling at Glendale, Albany and Sunset high schools. While teaching at Sunset he was Head Football and Wrestling coach.
In 1967 Ken began his second career as an agent for State Farm Insurance. During his 33 years with State Farm Ken received numerous awards for his salesmanship and innovative ideas, earning him the nickname "The Professor"
Whether spending time at the cabin on Paulina lake or Sunriver, camping at the beach or Saturday nights playing Pinocle, Ken's life revolved around his family. The highlight of his life coming when he retired and was able to travel the world with his Bride "Wanna".
He is preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, wife, LaJuanna, son Kyle and grandson Sean.
He is survived by his son, son in law, two daughters and two daughter in laws; Kirk and Laurie Jarrell of Portland, Lori Jarrell of Portland, Lisa and Tom Mannen and Gina Fristoe of Hillsboro, five grandchildren; Ashley (Dan) Pingel, Bradford (LaTisha) Newland, Matthew Jarrell, Scott (Sam Gulpen) Jarrell, Trevor (Jael) Mannen and four great grandchildren; Wyatt and Stella Pingel, Maveric and Benny Mannen.
A gathering for friends and family will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday October 27, 2024 at the River House, Rood Bridge Park, 4000 SE Rood Bridge Rd. in Hillsboro. If you have a picture, story or other memorabilia, please bring with you.

Ken was a teacher and coach at Sunset High School when i was a student there-when i became a STATE FARM AGENT in his same district at that time he -his wife and i became close friends and remained friends until his passing this past week----He definately was one of the "good" guys -He left us all
