Kenneth Ray Rawlins, 93, passed away peacefully Friday, April 1, 2022 at his home in Martinsville.
He was born Wednesday, August 22, 1928 to the late Mayo Paul and Margaret Myrtle (Kirk) Rawlins in Morgan County, Indiana. On November 20, 1955, he married his wife, Dorothy May (Parker) Rawlins, who passed away April 20, 2016.
Ken was a 1946 graduate of Martinsville High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Kenny worked for over 20 years as a postal carrier and after his retirement, worked as a parts truck driver for Weliever Chevrolet in Martinsville. Ken could fix and build anything. He proudly built his home in 1965 in which he and Dorothy raised their family and he had a workshop in the garage to use his vast carpentry skills. His love for fixing things was only rivaled by the love for his family. He spent the last 10 years of Dorothy's life caring for her after her stroke. He was a farmer at heart but also loved model trains, taking his boat out to go fishing when he had time and watching westerns, especially John Wayne movies.
He is survived by his daughters, Marsha Rawlins of Martinsville; Judy Rawlins of Indianapolis; Rita Rawlins of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Megan Rawlins of Martinsville. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Dorothy. Also preceding him were parents, Mayo and Margaret; brothers, Kirk, Wayne, Maurice, John and Warren Rawlins; sister, Ruth (Rawlins) Hammans.
Visitation is 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Costin Funeral Chapel. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the First Christian Church of Martinsville with Rev. Roxie McNelly officiating. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the service Thursday, starting at 1:00 p.m.
Entombment with military honors will be at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ken's name to the First Christian Church of Martinsville or the Morgan County FFA.
