Kenneth “Mark” Spickard, Jr., of Hartville, OH, passed to his eternal rest purchased by Jesus Christ on July 21, 2025. “Mark” was born in Clinton, TN on September 16, 1936 to Rev. Kenneth and Ruth Spickard. Moving to Akron in the early 1940s, he grew up in Bath Township where he loved to explore the woods and countryside.
Mark was a member of the Boy Scouts and played football at Revere High School, graduating in 1954. He was blessed to be a son of a minister of the Gospel growing up, hearing God’s word and singing His praises. In 1960, he answered the call of the Lord upon his life and became a Christian.
In January 1962, he wed the love of his life Marie Steiner and before the year ended they welcomed their son Dan and had the beginnings of the “Spickard clan”. Enduring tragedies would become a staple in their life as they lost an infant girl Katherine, in 1963. In the midst of tragedies were many blessings, as the Lord was pleased to give 4 more boys – Doug, Greg, Mike and Pat. Then He crowned their life with the birth of their precious daughter Susan in 1971.
Mark was characterized by many things, foremost being a faithful churchman in the house of God. He also served as a deacon and choir director, sharing his time, benevolence and talented voice with countless others. Mark always felt he was blessed by the Lord knowing the promises of the Bible for those who belong to Christ and rejoiced in the blessing of his children and grandchildren.
Mark was preceded in death by wife Marie, and daughters Katherine and Susan. He is survived by his 5 sons – Dan (Tracey), Doug, Greg (Jennifer), Mike (Penny) and Pat (Dana); as well as 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give special commendation to the caregivers at GentleBrook Homestead Nursing Home. They were truly exceptional and loved Mark to the end.
All services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Heritage Reformed Baptist Church, 5715 Market Avenue, North, Canton. Visitation at the church will begin at 9:30 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 am, and concluding with a brief graveside service at Mt. Peace Cemetery in Hartville, immediately after the funeral.
