DeClue Family Funeral Home - PotosiKenneth Dale Vandergriff, affectionately known as Kenny, was born on August 25, 1949, in Mineral Point, Missouri. He departed this life peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, October 3, 2025 at the age of 76. Kenny's life was defined by a spirit of dedication, love for his family, and a strong work ethic.
Kenny began his professional journey with the Monsanto Chemical Company where he worked for several years until taking a position with the Missouri Department of Corrections in the early 2000s. His unwavering commitment to his role as a corrections officer spanned many years until his retirement, showcasing his desire to serve and protect his community.
Educated in Potosi, Kenny graduated with the class of 1967. It was during these years that he met Alice Charboneau in the sixth grade, initiating a beautiful love story that would last a lifetime. They were united in marriage on May 30, 1969, and together they nurtured two children, creating a warm and loving home filled with laughter and memories.
Kenny's personality was characterized by a playful spirit; he enjoyed teasing family and friends and had a knack for bringing humor into everyday moments. He held dear the precious memories made with his grandchildren and great grandson, often greeting them with affectionate terms like “hey slug” or “hey partner.” These moments are treasured echoes that will continue to resonate in their hearts.
As an avid outdoorsman, Kenny found joy in nature, frequently hunting, fishing, blackberry picking, and maintaining a garden large enough to sustain his family. He took pride in helping Alice can vegetables and enjoyed the satisfaction of working on cars, offering his skills to friends and family in need of assistance. Above all, Kenny was content to be at home, tending to his property and sharing life with those he loved. In addition to his personal interests, Kenny proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, demonstrating his commitment to his country.
Kenny is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Alice Vandergriff; their two children, Scott Vandergriff (wife, Tina) and Alicen Sullens (husband, Rusty); four grandchildren: Scott Dale Vandergriff, Shayne Vandergriff (wife, Alexis), Jacob Sullens and Brettan Stice, and Abigail Sullens; and one great grandson, Kristofor Sullens. He is also remembered by his three siblings, Roger Vandergriff (wife, Rhonda), Joan Huff, and Brenda Vandergriff; along with several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, which include Joe Charboneau, Doris and Norman Emily, Margaret Breakfield, Mike and Theresa Charboneau, Nancy Charboneau; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Annie Vandergriff; two brothers, Clyde Vandergriff (wife, Elva) and Milford Vandergriff (wife, Margaret); an infant brother; as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alton and Stella Charboneau; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alma and Butch Boyer, Russell Breakfield, and Larry Charboneau.
