Kenneth Whiting Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Dec. 17, 2025.
Kenneth William Whiting, 69, of Windsor, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, in Hartford, CT, surrounded by love. Born on June 9, 1956, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Kenneth lived a life defined by generosity, service, and quiet strength.
Ken was the deeply loving and devoted husband of Loretta Whiting of 42 years, his true partner and the center of his world. Their marriage was one of steadfast love, devotion, and unwavering commitment, and Ken took great pride in caring for Loretta in both the ordinary moments and life's greatest challenges. He was a devoted and loving father to their son, John Antonelli Whiting. Ken was the cherished son of Irene and Maurice Whiting, both of whom predeceased him. A graduate of Penn State University's Class of 1978, Ken built a long and accomplished career in Information Technology, where he was admired for his diligence, insight, and gentle patience, earning the respect and affection of colleagues and friends alike. Beyond his professional life, Kenneth's heart for service was unmistakable. A proud Eagle Scout, he lived the Scout values with humility and grace every day of his life.
Ken's faith was central to who he was. As a longtime member of St. Gabriel's Church, he sang in the choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister, offering comfort and fellowship to his parish community. He was also a man with a big heart for animals-especially the Fidelco guide dogs he raised with love and dedication. Over the years, Ken raised six puppies for guide-dog training and proudly kept two, forming bonds that brought him great joy.
Deeply committed to helping others, Ken volunteered with Enfield Loaves and Fishes food pantry and served as a poll tab tender in Windsor. His instinct to give-of his time, his voice, his compassion-was a defining part of his life. Ken also served his country in the Navy as a commissioned strategic weapons officer on board the George C. Marshall Submarine. Later, Ken served as a Lieutenant at Roosevelt Roads Naval Base under an admiral staff in Puerto Rico. After active duty, Ken served as an Executive Officer at the Naval Reserve base in Plainfield, demonstrating the same sense of duty and principle that guided every part of his life.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Whiting, of Windsor, CT, and their son, John, who brought him immeasurable pride and joy. He is also survived by his brothers; Ronald Whiting (Rhonda) of Lititz, Pennsylvania and Richard Whiting (Debe) of Manheim, Pennsylvania. Sister; Diane King (Seth) of Williamsport, Pennsylvania and sister-in-law, Karen Costello, Ph.D. (Thomas), along with extended family members and countless friends whose lives were touched by his warmth and kindness. Those who knew Ken will remember him for his humor, his steady warmth, his unwavering reliability, and the deep loyalty he offered to family and friends. He was a man who listened fully, loved deeply, and lived humbly. Kenneth's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched-with kindness, with service, and with an open heart.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at St. Damien of Molokai Parish- St Gabriel Church, 379 Broad St, Windsor, CT at 11:00 AM
Burial will be private at The Connecticut State Veteran's Cemetery, Middletown, Connecticut
